first french edition. The captain's account of the first Dutch circumnavigation of the globe, undertaken from 1598 to 1601. Van Noort traveled along the coast of Brazil, through the Straits of Magellan, and up along the coasts of Chile and Peru before crossing the Pacific. The six American illustrations in this fragmentary copy include the 1599 view of the harbor at Rio de Janeiro; the views of São Sebastião, Santa Clara, and Porto de Seguro; the map of Chile; and the map of Peru and Brazil.
